Frequently Asked Questions
About Pediatric Dentistry

If you have concerns that aren’t addressed in the questions below, please contact our team.

When should I take my child to the dentist for their first check-up?

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that young patients begin visiting a pediatric dentist no later than their first birthday. Still, your child should see a pediatric dentist as soon as their first tooth appears to prevent dental problems. A pediatric dentist will treat patients from birth through adolescence. Children should continue to visit the dentist periodically throughout childhood to prevent tooth decay and gum disease.

What is the difference between a pediatric dentist and family dentist?

A pediatric dentist has two to three years specialty training following dental school and limits his/her practice to only treating children. Pediatric dentists are primary and specialty oral care providers for infants and children through adolescence, including those with special health needs.

How can parents help prevent tooth decay?

Parents should take their children to the dentist regularly, beginning with the appearance of their child's first tooth. Then, the dentist can recommend a specific program of brushing, flossing, and other treatments for parents to supervise and teach their children. When added to regular dental visits and a balanced diet, these home treatments will help give your child a lifetime of healthy habits.

What is the ideal age for orthodontic treatment?

Chronological age is not a factor when deciding whether a patient is a candidate for orthodontic treatment; there is not one ideal age for treatment to begin. Our orthodontic patients can look forward to teeth that not only look better but work better, too.

Are thumb sucking and pacifier habits harmful for a child’s teeth?

Thumb and pacifier sucking habits will generally only become a problem if they go on for a long period of time. Most children stop these habits on their own, but if they are still sucking their thumbs or fingers past the age of three, Dr. Glomb can consult with you about your options.

Do you accept my dental insurance?

Our helpful team has listed the dental insurance we currently accept above. If you don't see yours, we'll be happy to work with you to see if we can accept your dental insurance. Call us to learn more about using your dental insurance at our dental office or an alternative financing option.
